Taipei (/ˌtaɪˈpeɪ/, literally means "North of Tai(wan)"), officially known as Taipei City (Chinese: 臺北市 or 台北市; pinyin: Táiběi Shì; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Tâi-pak Chhī), is the capital city and a special municipality of Taiwan. Sitting at the northern tip of Taiwan, Taipei City is an enclave of the municipality of New Taipei City. It is about 25 km (16 mi) southwest of the northern port city Keelung. The city is mostly located on the Taipei Basin, an ancient lakebed bounded by the two relatively narrow valleys of the Keelung and Xindian rivers, which join to form the Tamsui River along the city's western border.
The city proper is home to an estimated population of 2,693,672 in 2009, forming the core part of the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan area which includes the nearby cities of New Taipei and Keelung with a population of 6,900,273, the 40th most-populous urban area in the world. The name "Taipei" can refer either to the whole metropolitan area or the city proper.
Taipei is the political, economic, educational, and cultural center of Taiwan, and one of the major hubs of the Chinese-speaking world. Considered to be a global city, Taipei is part of a major high-tech industrial area.Railways, high-speed rail, highways, airports, and bus lines connect Taipei with all parts of the island. The city is served by two airports – Taipei Songshan and Taiwan Taoyuan. Taipei is home to various world-famous architectural or cultural landmarks which include Taipei 101, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Dalongdong Baoan Temple, Hsing Tian Kong, Mengjia Longshan Temple, National Palace Museum, Presidential Office Building, Taipei Guest House, Ximending, and several night markets dispersing over the city. Its natural features such as Maokong, Yangmingshan, and hot springs are also well known to international visitors.
Economy class, also called coach class, steerage, or standard class, (colloquially: Cattle class), is the lowest travel class of seating in air travel, rail travel, and sometimes ferry or maritime travel. Historically, this travel class has been called tourist class on ocean liners and third class, or even fourth class, on railways. In some contexts or languages it is (half jokingly) referred to as "wood class" because seats and carriages in the cheapest class were literally made from wood in the 19th and early 20th century. Another common term (both in rail travel and aviation) is "coach class".
Travel classes originated from a distinction between "cabin class" and "steerage" on sailing vessels in the 18th century. Cabin class, for wealthier passengers included small cabins and a shared dining room while "steerage" provided open decks with bunks often near the tackle to operate the steering rudder, usually in converted cargo space on the "between decks" area where passengers from poorer backgrounds cooked their own meals.
New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.
The Boeing 777 is a family of long-range wide-body twin-engine jet airliners developed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. It is the world's largest twinjet and has a typical seating capacity for 314 to 451 passengers, with a range of 5,235 to 9,500 nautical miles (9,695 to 17,594 km). Commonly referred to as the "Triple Seven", its distinguishing features include the largest-diameter turbofan engines of any aircraft, six wheels on each main landing gear, fully circular fuselage cross-section, and a blade-shaped tail cone. Developed in consultation with eight major airlines, the 777 was designed to replace older wide-body airliners and bridge the capacity difference between Boeing's 767 and 747. As Boeing's first fly-by-wire airliner, it has computer-mediated controls. It is also the first commercial aircraft to be designed entirely with computer-aided design.
The 777 is produced in two fuselage lengths as of 2014. The original 777-200 variant entered commercial service in 1995, followed by the extended-range 777-200ER in 1997. The stretched 777-300, which is 33.25 ft (10.1 m) longer, followed in 1998. The longer-range 777-300ER and 777-200LR variants entered service in 2004 and 2006 respectively, while the 777F, a freighter version, debuted in February 2009; these variants all feature General Electric GE90 engines and extended raked wingtips. The earlier 777-200, -200ER and -300 versions are equipped with GE90, Pratt & Whitney PW4000, or Rolls-Royce Trent 800 engines. The 777-200LR is the world's longest-range airliner, able to fly more than halfway around the globe, and holds the record for the longest distance flown non-stop by a commercial aircraft.

August 29, 2014 Our Chinese School has been in operation since 1981 teaching beginning to advanced level Chinese to school-aged children. Mandarin is taught with traditional characters and with pinyin. We also have a Taiwanese (Hokkien) class, and it is taught using both the English Alphabet and the traditional Taiwanese Alphabet called Peh-oe-ji (POJ), the most widespread romanization system used in Taiwan (1600's-1950's). We teach both styles so that students can read both old and new materials written in romanized Taiwanese. Our Taiwanese classes are videotaped and put online to aid the students of this class. Learn Taiwanese with us! If you are new to Taiwanese, start with Lesson 1 (uses English alphabet). Taiwanese Year 2 reinforces Year 1 and introduces a second alphabet calle...

Taipei has decided to take a new approach to boost the English language skills of the city''s students. Beginning in September, two public elementary schools will be upgraded to "bilingual" status, which means that much more of the school''s curriculum, including physical education, will be conducted in English. This is English class at Dongxin Elementary School, complete with a full-sized model of a rhinoceros. Students read along with the teacher and answer questions. The class desperately wants to learn English because Dongxin Elementary will become one of two "bilingual" elementary schools in Taipei starting this September.English TeacherThey''re very good students. They always get their work done, and they ask questions and they''re very respectful to you and they''re very eager to le...

Welcome to another video of Shanghai Flyer ! For those who has subscribed a warm welcome back :) This video is a review of Eva Air's royal laurel class (business class). I've heard a lot of positive impression about this product so l decided to review it this time. I was flying from New York to Shanghai with a stopover in Taipei. My seat was 6A and I also ordered my main course on their website. The business class seat Eva use on their 77W are the prevailing reverse herringbone seats. Those seats are identical to the ones that China Eastern has. The soft product of this flight is amazing. From the impeccable service to the stunning food and beverage(Krug). Eva Air's Royal Laurel Class has definitely exceeded my expectation for a business class product. Although it was a midnight departure...

Welcome to a Shanghai Flyer flight report, for those of you who already subscribed a warm welcome back :) This is a review of Eva Air Royal Laurel Class (Business Class) from Taipei to New York JFK. The flight time was about 14 hours and the aircraft operating was a Boeing 777-300ER. I made a report for my outbound flight from New York on Eva and this flight was even better than my last one. I have always loved travelling. I was lucky enough that from a young age, my parents took us all over the place, instilling in us a sense of larger spaces and broadened horizons. As I grew up, I became more independent in my travels and tried to figure out ways to do it more. From learning Spanish in Salamanca to purposefully getting 6 month summer jobs in places I wanted to explore further. I became accustomed to getting lost and just wondering the streets, figuring out where would be the next good meal or when I would stumble onto some secret only locals whispered about. Getting lost was second nature back then. The only resources we had were over-read guide books that by the time you reached their recommendations, the waiters would push their best sellers down your throats. So we h...

Aircraft: Boeing 777-35E(ER) (B-16706) Airline: EVA Air Route: San Francisco-Taipei Date: April 21st 2014 It was quite a long 13 hour flight across the Pacific Ocean to Taipei, but it was a comfortable one. The Flight Attendants were really nice and attentive and the food was amazing. Elite Class is certainly one of the best Premium Economy products out there in the world!

The service on Eva Air is impeccable. Upon boarding, the cabin crew came around the cabin and introduced themselves to every business class passengers. This flight features a full dinner service since it departed at 7 PM. On my outbound flight, I had lobster as my entree which was amazing. However, I was once again astonished by the catering that Eva offers. The dinner was the longest I’ve ever had ...

I really appreciate the efforts of making such a perfect plane by CI and Airbus. I was only a Y class passenger. The reason why I could seat in the PEY class is that they don't provide PEY class for this short route, so PEY seats are opened to Y class pax. I was lucky to be able to had chosen this PEY window seat. I really like the meal, the interior design, and also the livery of the plane. I do apologise that most of the contents were photos, since there were i...

With new technologies together with Song dynasty aesthetics, flying on this plane doesn't feels like any other aircraft. It makes you feels like it's a flying palace. Actually it may not be absolutely accurate to say it's a Premium Economy class review, I was actually a Y class passenger. The reason why I had this PEY seat is that they don't provide PEY class on the HKG-TPE route, theref...

Our Chinese School has been in operation since 1981 teaching beginning to advanced level Chinese to school-aged children. If you are new to Taiwanese, start with Taiwanese Lesson 1 (uses English alphabet). Taiwanese Year 2 reinforces Year 1 and introduces a second alphabet called Peh-o...
Props to Gamepro.com for hosting this lecture. I'll add some more info and the class website later.
Man their camera was terrible. It made me look like a zombie! And sounds bad. Anyway, this is what it's like teaching in a high or junior high school. Constant, "be quiet, respect, let people try to talk, don't laugh at other's when you can't speak either, and on and on. So a 45 minute class, you might get 25 minutes of conversation. It's not easy, notice how I make little jokes and play around. However, I learned this can make them become hard to gain control to teach. Also, they are easily bored, English is hard for them, and most don't want to be in the class, so they find anything to picking on a teacher's cloth's and looks to making noises and much more to make themselves TRY to look good in front of their classmates. If I can get a recent /current school to let me film a class I help...

A red-eye flight experience on China Airlines' beautiful 777-300ER service from New York to Taipei. Taiwanese airlines might truly be the new 5 star airlines as they rapidly overhaul their image with a seriously amazing long haul product. The interior is full of wood décor, the IFE is brilliantly smooth and beautifully designed. IFE incorporates a lot of "tiles" similar to Windows 8 which works well for a touch screen interface. The service and meals were excellent. Flight attendants were always smiling and saying "thank you." When I asked for a toothbrush, the FA ended up bringing me another amenity kit in addition to the toothbrush. A simple but well stocked amenity kit was provided. This is a huge contrast to the premium economy experience with China Southern, which suffers from horribl...
Filmed on a Nikon D5500 with Sigma 17-50mm lens. Capping off this trip across the world is one of the best first class I have had. The Korean Air crew continues to be some of the best FAs I have encountered. The meals are also significantly better on this route compared to leaving from JFK, which suggest that the issue is with JFK catering. Something I noticed in Seoul Incheon this year is the rather ridiculous wait time for security checks. The lines seem especially bad in the mornings. There is no special security lane for premium class passenger so make sure to get to the airport earlier than you usually do. It took about an hour before I got through security. Since the First Class lounge barely passes for a business class lounge, I decided to briefly visit it to get some food. To my...

Description Object orientation affords elegance and readability for back-end view logic for Python web applications. Come learn about how to not only start using Django’s Class-Based Views, but also how they work and how to break them down for your use case. Abstract When first learning the beloved web framework Django, it’s not uncommon to utilize function-based views for the back-end view logic of an application. This pattern rhymes with other popular web frameworks such as Flask and Pyramid. However, class-based views unlock an important set of capabilities: they help DRY up view logic, encourage consistency in form validation, and “plug" right into database model classes. While it’s easy to appreciate this from an objective standpoint (who wouldn’t want all of those things?), after an...
Here is the second leg of this long journey to Beijing, the new Economy class aboard the A330-300 of Cathay Pacific for the flight CX312 from Hong Kong to Beijing. I'm editing now the next report. Have a nice week! After this very long journey from France to Beijing I've found the Cathay Pacific service very good, as the catering. The economy seats are comfortable. The IFE offer a great experience of entertainment with a good selection of movies, TV shows, and music! The delay was well managed by Cathay Pacific and his crew were very professional to manage it. Even if this is usual in China I don't understand why they don't use bigger aircraft for less flight ? They could use B747 instead of A333 for this route. So that was a really good experience on board Cathay Pacific's new economy cl...
